This silver Art Nouveau mirror is inscribed on the back "J. Xavier from Pupils of P.L.A. 24 Dec. 06". This international design style was popular during the early 1900's. The flowing curvilinear lines mirrored the organic forms of nature, e.g., flowers. In 1902, the Reverend Johan Xavier was hired to teach religion, history, Latin, and Greek at Pacific Lutheran Academy (later to become Pacific Lutheran University). He also served as librarian and was acting president of the school in 1920-21. His wife, Signe Skattebol, was the first women's basketball coach. Donor: Anonymous.
